Disneyland Paris, the only Disney park in Europe, will reopen on June 17, according to a new statement posted on Twitter by the Euro Disney Group.
Paris theme park will be the last of Disney properties to reopen internationally as French people get vaccinated against covid-19 and rich countries gradually return to a normal life –provided they have purchased enough doses of vaccine for their populations.
“We are pleased to announce that Disneyland Paris will reopen on June 17 with Disneyland Park, Walt Disney Studios Park, Disney’s Newport Bay Club Hotel and Disney Village. Our reopening will follow strengthened health and safety measures ”, wrote Euro Disney Group in a press release.
“The highly anticipated Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel will open on June 21 and sales will open on May 18. We look forward to welcoming you back to the heart of magic! ” the company said.
According to rumors, Disneyland Paris would reopen in early April, according to the large ecosystem of Disney Blogs, but those plans never materialized.
France’s vaccination program has accelerated in recent weeks, with more than 20.1 million people receiving at least a first dose. More than 8.9 people in France, or around 13% of the population, have been fully vaccinated. Disneyland Paris even has been used as a vaccination site, as you can see in the photo above.
The covid-19 pandemic shut down Hong Kong Disneyland and Shanghai Disney at the end of January 2020, a worrying sign that illnesses in China were even more serious than the outside world thought. In fact, when we wrote about the closures Shanghai and Hong Kong, international health experts had not yet given it the name of covid-19. The disease was known as “coronavirus 2019-nCoV”. But when they shut down Disneyland, you know something bad is going on.
There were only five cases in the United States when Hong Kong Disneyland announced it was shutting down. What a bizarre year and a half this has been. And what a relief that things are back to normal.
