Fix Android apps not working on mobile data

There can be multiple reasons for an app to not perform well on mobile data. This could be due to issues with your internet, if the app is disabled for mobile data, issues with APN settings, etc. Below we have mentioned some troubleshooting steps that you can use to fix the issue on your Android phone.

1. Check the data connection

The first step is to check if your mobile data connection is correct. Try opening a web page on your browser or checking the connection speed at fast.com or speedtest.net. If you find that mobile data is not working, check:

  • If you have an active Internet pack on your SIM card.
  • Whether you’ve used up your mobile data plan or your daily data limit.

2. Check the mobile data limit

The next thing to do is to check if you have enabled the mobile data limit feature in your phone settings. If enabled, Android will automatically disable data once the set data limit is reached.

  1. Open Settings on your device.
  2. Go to Network and Internet > Mobile network.
  3. Here, look for the Data warning or limit option. Disable all limits if they are enabled.
  4. If you can’t find the option, manually search for it in settings.

3. Remove your SIM card, restart the phone

If you have an active Internet pack on your SIM card, restart your phone to see if the Internet starts working again. If not, turn off your phone, remove the SIM card and reinsert it. Then turn on your phone after a minute or two.

4. Enable data roaming

If you’ve traveled in a different state, you should turn on data roaming to make sure mobile data is working on your phone. Do this:

  1. Open Settings on your phone.
  2. Head toward Network and Internet The settings.
  3. To go to the Mobile network section.
  4. Light up Roaming and restart your phone.

If only certain apps are having difficulty connecting to the internet on mobile data, follow the troubleshooting steps below.

5. Check if data is disabled for the application

On Android, you can block an app from using mobile data if you want to. Chances are that you have accidentally turned off mobile data for the app, due to which it cannot connect to the internet. To check it:

  1. Open Settings on your Android phone.
  2. Go to Apps and notifications > All applications.
  3. Here, find the app which is not working on mobile data. Tap on it.
  4. Click on Mobile data and WiFi.
  5. Check if it is disabled from mobile data usage or restricted background data. If so, activate it or authorize it again.

6. Disable the data saver

Most Android phones have a built-in data saver. When enabled, Data Saver limits background data usage for most apps on your phone. As a result, you may be faced with delayed messages, or the images may not load unless you type them.

So, turn off the data saver by following the steps below. Note that the steps may vary depending on the make and model of your phone. In this case, search for “Data Saver” in the settings.

  1. Go to Settings on your phone.
  2. Go to Network and Internet settings.
  3. Tap Data saver. Disable it (if enabled).

7. Reset the APN to Default

Resetting APN settings can help resolve mobile data setup issues on your phone. To do it:

  1. Open Settings on the device.
  2. Go to Network and Internet > Mobile network.
  3. Now press Access point names (APN).
  4. Click on the three-dot menu and press Reset to default.

8. Reset network settings

You can further reset your phone’s network settings. This will give all connections a fresh start.

  1. Open Settings on your phone.
  2. To go to the Systems > Reset options.
  3. Here press Reset network settings or Reset Wifi option.
  4. Enter your lock screen password if prompted.

9. Try changing the DNS to fix apps that don’t connect to the internet

Sometimes changing DNS can fix apps on your phone not working on mobile data. For example, PUBG Mobile, although banned in India, works well with Google DNS, in addition to VPN networks.

Google public DNS

To change the DNS, go to your phone Settings > Wifi and network > Private DNS. Change it from automatic DNS to private DNS. Then enter dns.google as the host name of the DNS provider. Then click Save.

Cloudflare DNS

To use Cloudflare DNS, repeat the above steps and enter 1dot1dot1dot1.cloudflare-dns.com as the host name of the DNS provider. Then hit Save. You can also download 1.1.1.1. App from the Play Store.

Download 1.1.1.1

10. Is the application blocked? Are the servers down?

A lot of Chinese apps have been banned in India. Therefore, even if you download them from other sources, they may not work on mobile data as they are susceptible to being blocked by Indian telecom operators.

You will either need to use VPN or try the DNS change method above. However, we do not recommend that you use these apps as they may pose a threat to your privacy.

If the app is not banned, the other reason the app is not working on mobile data might be because the app itself is down. Sometimes even popular services like Facebook, Instagram, and Gmail are not available due to technical issues. You can check if it’s down on IsItDownRightNow.com.
